National Faith Leader: Election Results Show Need to Pass “Holy Recovery” for the American People

Washington, DC – The following is a statement from Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO of Faith in Public Life, calling on Members of Congress to end political jockeying to deliver results for the American economy.

“With the results of last night’s elections in, one thing is clear: failure to deliver policies that help us all thrive has severe political consequences. As a pastor, I call on Congress to lay the foundation for a Holy Recovery from the pandemic by passing the full Build Back Better agenda. It’s time for our legislators to deliver policies that make a real difference in people’s lives, such as citizenship for our immigrant neighbors, expanding childcare and paid leave, making healthcare more affordable and accessible, and stopping the climate crisis. Democrats have negotiated and backtracked for far too long enough on Build Back Better, and we the people are out of patience.

“When the pandemic began, Congress swiftly approved the American Rescue Plan to provide American families with essential pandemic relief that helped us get back on our feet . But the job isn’t finished. We must now act with the same conviction, and those in power must cease the endless debate so that we can deliver a Holy Recovery that helps us all thrive.”
