More Than 600 Faith Leaders Nationwide Call on Senate

to Pass DISCLOSE Act

Over the past 24 hours, more than 600 faith leaders from across the nation have reached out to their Senators and requested that they take this important and necessary step to correct our out-of-balance system by supporting the DISCLOSE Act

Washington, DC –  Today, the U.S. Senate will hold a hearing on the DISCLOSE Act to highlight the urgent need to shine a light on secret money in politics and to increase transparency and accountability in our government. More than 600 faith leaders nationwide have reached out to their Senators to advocate for passing the DISCLOSE Act.

Jeanné Lewis, CEO of Faith in Public Life Action

“As faith leaders, we have a duty to create healthy communities where everyone can thrive. A functioning and flourishing democracy facilitates that by ensuring the voice of the people is heard, valued and respected. But for far too long, extremely wealthy corporations and individuals have silenced everyday people, like us and our neighbors, – and given unchecked power to a wealthy few who manipulate our democracy to hold onto influence. The DISCLOSE Act will help us ensure the will of the people is central in our democratic processes.

Passing the DISCLOSE Act will help us enforce greater transparency in our democracy. It is not an accident that attacks on our democracy – and the freedoms that come with it –  happen as we see an influx of undisclosed financing enter into our election cycle. Over the past 24 hours, more than 600 faith leaders from across the nation have reached out to their Senators and requested they take this important and necessary step to correct our out-of-balance system by supporting the DISCLOSE Act.

Being in a right relationship with God requires that we are in a right relationship with each other. Passing the DISCLOSE Act will ensure our nation lives into its promise to be a multi-faith and multiracial democracy and bring us one step closer to the beloved community God desires for us all.”
