Nearly 100 Florida Faith Leaders Denounce Trump’s Vitriolic Rhetoric, Urge Fellow Clergy to Protect Integrity of the Church
Orlando, FL -- Responding to Donald Trump's appearance before a group of conservative evangelicals in Orlando on Thursday, a prominent group of Florida clergy held a press conference at the Orange County Convention Center to rebuke Trump’s rhetoric and urge him to stop politicizing religion for personal gain.
The pastors appearing at the press conference also released a letter endorsed by nearly 100 faith leaders from a diverse array of Florida churches that said:
“As pastors, we have a moral obligation to protect the integrity of the church by opposing any effort to provide a Christian blessing to Donald Trump's campaign. Trump's demonization of so many of God's children on the basis of where they were born or how they pray is fundamentally incompatible with the good news of Jesus Christ. We call on our fellow Christians of all denominational, theological, and political persuasions to reject it."
