Political Director (Remote Possible)

Position Overview

The political director is responsible for strategizing and coordinating with Faith in Public Life Action Fund’s leadership on national, state and local level campaigns. They oversee FPL Action’s 2020 electoral strategy, digitally and on the ground, designing and implementing our theory of change to mobilize and persuade. They promote the value add of faith impact in 2020 elections, maximizing our assets as they match opportunities to influence key races. 

 

This position is an individual contributor position that works under the supervision of the VP of Organizing and Campaigns, with significant growth potential into the head of the FPLAF entity in the future. This role collaborates frequently with the organizing team, the VP of Communications and Digital Strategy and the VP of Development. In addition to overseeing FPL Action’s work, the Political Director lends support to FPL’s C3 campaigns on an as-needed basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a landscape and political analysis to identify top priorities for FPL Action’s electoral efforts, as well as potential secular and faith partners 

  • Draft overall c4 campaign plan with a focus on creating a C4 digital engagement strategy, including finding and hiring a digital consultant to build out email and social media organizing and fundraising. 

  • Develop and oversee targeted electoral and legislative plans for key FPLAF states, coordinating with leadership at the national, state and local level

  • Supervise, support and hold accountable political and field teams for all aspects of the above described work. 

  • Working with the Director of Messaging and Online engagement to oversee polling, message testing and research, targeting and earned media work on behalf of FPL Action.

  • Represent FPL Action with national movement and political partners and coalitions. 

  • Engage in fundraising activities in partnership with VP of Development to secure additional resources for FPL Action specific activities

  • Establish accountability systems in the field to ensure that all campaign goals are met and provide regular campaign assessments and post-election analysis. 

  • Serve as a liaison with FPL and FPLAF departments and divisions on electoral work, state battles and field program planning and implementation. 

  • Prepare and submit regular reports as requested.

Direction and Decision Making: This position reports to the VP of Organizing and Campaigns and works independently. 

 

Qualifications

  • At least ten years of campaign experience coordinating all aspects of issue, organizing or political campaigns. 

  • At least five years of this on political campaigns specifically, working at a strategic level for a local or national political campaign. 

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience working with voter files, modeling and targeting, and the Voter Action Network (VAN). 

  • Extensive knowledge of C4 rules and regulations.

  • Demonstrated experience running successful digital campaigns.

  • Experience managing large-scale campaigns and ability to manage staff. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively 

  • Ability to develop and maintain good working and collaborative relationships and to work in a team 

  • Ability to operate in the field with state leadership councils and staff 

  • Ability to manage and assess multiple programs and priorities 

  • Ability to manage program budget and implement plans 

  • Ability to manage and help develop electoral and grassroots campaign plans, logistics and timeline. 

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in different states and meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to advancing racial equity in previous work 

  • Interest in working w/faith-based leaders and partners 

 

Compensation and Benefits

This is a senior level position with a salary range of $70,000 to $100,000 dependent upon location-based cost of living and experience. 

 

We offer generous and comprehensive benefits including full medical, dental and vision premium coverage, life insurance, and an FSA/DCA savings plan. We also offer an up to 6% 403b plan contribution and a commuter, cell phone and professional development stipend. We provide 15 paid vacation days, 10 paid sick days, 10 paid federal holidays, and additional paid administrative leave, including the week between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day.
