Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II and Rev. Jennifer Butler Bring “Moral Revival” Tour to Southwest GA to Counter Voter Suppression and Mobilize GOTV Efforts

Cuthbert, Ga.. -- On Saturday, November 3rd, at 5 p.m., Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, president and senior lecturer of Repairers of the Breach, and Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO of Faith in Public Life Action Fund, will lead a revival-style “Get Out the Vote” worship service at Antioch Baptist Church, Cuthbert, Ga.

Cuthbert, nicknamed “Voter Suppression Central,” is the largest city in Randolph County with 4,000 residents. More than 60 percent of Randolph County’s residents are black, and more than 30 percent live below the poverty line.

This will be the second stop on the pastors’ three-city Moral Revival for Voting Rights tour.

Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, President and Sr. Lecturer of Repairers of the Breach and National Co-Chair of the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call For Revival:

"We have to make sure our brothers and sisters in faith realize that this is an 'on' election and not an 'off' election because so much is at stake. Our right to vote is the most powerful tool we have to fight against attacks on the poor, health care, labor rights, public education, the environment, and the soul of our nation. Our moral values call us to challenge injustice with prayers and action. We cannot be silent. Our vote must speak our convictions. We have to show up at the polls on November 6 and cast our ballots to move our country forward, not backward."

Rev. Jennifer Butler, CEO, Faith in Public Life:

“We are calling on people of faith to be voters in the 2018 election. Voting is a sacred responsibility that gives us the power to fight for our families, our communities and our democracy. Politicians who deny our right to vote deny our God-given dignity. I’m excited to join with the community of faith in Georgia and Florida to pray out the vote.”
